Abstract: This article develops an analysis of “History of a desire”, a short story by the Colombian writer Pedro Gómez Valderrama. The analytical perspective deals, in a related and multiverse way, with some levels of the story, its narrative syntax and its speech. In general, it proposes an idea of ‘History’ derived from that posed by the “literary story” and the discursive place of the tale. Another topic explored is how conjecture becomes an intrinsic part of the artistic creative process. Finally, it affirms that the syntax of the tale is similar to a visual icon, that is, more spatial than linear.
