Abstract: This article tries to show that García Márquez’s work and the imaginary Wayúu world are in relation of homology. To demonstrate it, a comparison between isolated images from different literary narrations of the author and representations of the “world-other” of the shamanic Wayúu tradition as it appears in ethnologic studies is made. The cultural contact, recently known, between the writer and members of this Amerindian society is confirmed. This article also re-affirms the thesis that there are verbal links and forms of representation binding García Márquez’s works with the regional Caribbean Colombian culture, and pretends to confirm the thesis of Ángel Rama about a narrative transculturation of the Colombian writer.
Key words: García Márquez, Gabriel; Transculturation; Wayúu Culture; Guajira.
