Eugenio Díaz Castro, in Manuela, shows the historical moment and the situations of conflict and change that the population of New Granada underwent; whose inhabitants were trapped between the agrarian society of the colony and the nascent industrial society of the new modern nation. He represented situations and characters that find forms of inclusion and it belonging within both groups by means of manipulation, abuse and coercion and deceit to show how the Republican utopian dreams are impossible.
