Abstract

This paper focuses on issues related to the curriculum in teaching English as a foreign language. That includes a reflection on topics such as foreign language position and status in relation to other languages within the community and the society, social consequences of immersion as an ambitious way to teach foreign languages, and the existing strain between the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach and traditional approaches on foreign language instruction.
