Abstract

This paper proposes the use of culturally relevant literature in order to develop critical literacy as part of teaching English as a second or foreign language. It is also explained here a method of creative reading. This method is an all-encompassing approach to literacy which was developed by Alma Flor Ada to grant English learners access to a critical literacy. Finally, it is suggested how to use culturally relevant literature in the application of such a reading method.
