Abstract

The neo-liberal justification for globalization affirms the need for the logic and the dynamics of the market institutions to permeate and to determine all the confineses of the social life; as is the need for the rules of the market, as defined by categories of productivity, growth, competition and benefit, to become the determining axle of social organization. This view of globalization, purely based on economics, overrides politics and provokes lack of motivation and apathy. This article attempts to develop a different understanding; one in which the capitalistic market system is framed by a conception of politics that is oriented to the creation of social, political and economic conditions that make possible the consolidation and enjoyment of real liberties by all citizens.
