Abstract

The paper aims to examine how the influence of Hellenic culture was in the educational field of the Roman Republic, a period in which Hellas was militarily conquered by the Romans. I will focus specially on the reception of philosophy and rhetoric in Rome, since these disciplines, which were imported from Greece, radically transformed the Roman educational model. For carry out this examination, I will use the work of the philosopher and orator most prominent of the Roman republic: Marcus Tullius Cicero (106–43 BCE), which is crossed by the imperative need to reconcile the Greek intellectual reflections with the Romans values and customs.
