Abstract

The present work contains an analysis of the passages 1.382a1 to 1.383b10 of book II of The Rhetoric of Aristotle in relation to chapter I of the Treatise on the Citizen and chapter XIII of Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan. The subject is about the conditions that make possible the generation of fear in men and the irrational and passionate conception that both philosophers have about human nature. Establishing this relationship, it is intended to expose how from fear, on the one hand, it is possible to influence men's judgment, and on the other, to incite them to form a political community. Then, fear as a human passion would be a power between the irrationality of man and his civility.
