Abstract

This paper aims to reflect on religious syncretism in the Afro-descendant population located in the Pacific and Caribbean regions of Colombia. In order to do this, it will be important to answer the next question: Can religious syncretism be conceived as a mechanism of resistance? This paper argues that religious syncretism can be considered as a mechanism of resistance. The working perspective from which the problem will be approached will be the studies in philosophy of religion, making use of a descriptive research. In sum, it will be concluded that religious syncretism is indeed a mechanism of resistance of Afro-descendants in Colombia that is intimately bound to their African heritage. This heritage played a significant role in the processes of resistance and liberation of the enslaved people.
