Abstract

This paper aims to develop one of the findings of the doctoral research "Representations of the body during pregnancy: the experience of the gestating body in primigravidae". The expression "gestating body" is proposed as a concept to name feminine corporal materiality where it takes place, through pregnancy, the dispute between the patriarchal ideals of femininity, women's ego ideal, and the gazes of otherness embodied by other women.

PhD Student in Psychology, Universidad Veracruzana (Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico); Her research-thesis work addresses the representations of the body in pregnancy, from psychoanalysis, gender and maternity. She is a teacher in Couple and Family Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Chiapas Institute of Postgraduate Studies in Psychotherapy. Degree in Psychology, Universidad Veracruzana (Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico).

Dra. Flor de María Gamboa, Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo

PhD in Gender Studies, University of Sussex (United Kingdom). Professor-researcher at the Faculty of Psychology of the Michoacana University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo (Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico). Coordinator of the Network of Academic Gender Links of the Michoacana University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo. She belongs to the National System of Researchers at level I. She develops investigative work from the articulation of feminism and psychoanalysis to document, study and theorize the processes of production and reproduction of inequalities that originate in sexual difference.
