Abstract

To Freud, the references to literature were useful to illustrate some points and aspects of the theory he built from the clinic, proving it is literature which has something to teach psychoanalysis and not the other way round. Like this, and with Lacan’s teachings, we can restate it is the poet’s "well-saying" what, in his lyric poetry, in his saying, says, illustrates and explains that what psychoanalyst's words sometimes are not enough for.

E.T.A. Hoffmann’s “The Sandman” is only an example, and the next writing, an attempt to understand from the reading of this story particularly.
