Abstract

This article revolves around the musical heritage of our contemporary classical music. A series of reflections are raised about the current situation of contemporary music in our Latin American countries. What are our position and our perspectives on the local and global scene? How is this type of music being promoted? What relationships exist with market trends and mass communication? What are the various approaches and positions and how can they dialogue with each other? How do these tendencies, sometimes opposite, behave and communicate in Latin American musical art? How is the struggle between an artistic, personal or collective essence, confronted with consumerism and the communicative media forces of the "mass media" resolved? The primary interest of this essay is to create a permanent analytical concern in the face of these questions that allows us to establish the construction of an edifying academic dialogue and open new channels of communication or improve existing ones. Perhaps this reflective attitude will allow us to understand ourselves in diversity, in the midst of the confusion of so many currents and their apparent contradictions
