Abstract

Roberto Pineda Duque is one of the few Colombian composers of the second half of the 20th century who systematically applied twelve-tone and serial procedures in his work. Of provincial origin, his first contacts with music were acquired in chapels and churches, until he formed an aesthetic of a polyphonic order from the practice of counterpoint. When he settled in Bogotá in 1953, his musical creation multiplied in symphonic and chamber pieces, concerts, songs and numerous religious-themed scores for choir and organ. In a medium marked by classical tradition and elements of musical nationalism, Pineda Duque's work stands out for its formal invoice, closed and complex sound that was the object of incomprehension and marginalization
