Abstract

Tonal harmony is a very important subject in the music syllabus, both in official teaching (professional and higher degrees of musical education) and music academies or at similar levels. Based on that, diverse graphical systems have been used, from the famous French system to the less known Harvard’s code. In this paper, we will deal with the most important systems and discuss the pros and cons for each of them. Furthermore, we will
make a proposal concerning the use of these codes and the different concepts and levels that stem from these approaches.
