Abstract

The work General Concepts in Colombian Art History: History, Art, and Nation, 1959–1985, by Sara Fernández Gómez, emerges in a context marked by scarce disciplinary production and a lack of critical consolidation of art history in Colombia. The book is part of a reflective effort to confront both the methodological deficiencies and the conceptual frameworks that have governed this discipline in the country in recent decades. From an interdisciplinary perspective, the author not only examines the most relevant texts in the construction of this historiographical narrative, but also questions the criteria of cultural legitimation, the dynamics of power in the artistic field, and the relevance of introducing a philosophical approach that broadens the interpretive horizons of art history.
