De la periferia al centro: Un estudio de La Novia Oscura (1999) de Laura Restrepo

Resumen: En el presente trabajo se toma como punto de partida La Novia Oscura (1999) de la escritora colombiana Laura Restrepo. Después de una corta caracterización de la obra, se plantea que Tora, ciudad donde se desarrolla la historia, ubicada en el Magdalena Medio colombiano, funciona como un prisma a través del cual se vislumbran las contradicciones en las que se debate este país. Tora es, asimismo, un sitio de resistencia, desde le cual un grupo de prostitutas, marginado incluso de los discursos ginocéntricos o feministas, intenta rescatar su dignidad. En esta novela se confrontan, se invierten o, simplemente, se anulan algunas ideas y representaciones que aún prevalecen sobre la mujer prostituta en el imaginario social. Igualmente, se pone entredicho el discurso oficial sobre el control del cuerpo, la higiene y la enfermedad de la prostituta.

Abstract: This paper takes as its starting point La Novia Oscura (1999), written by the Colombian Laura Restrepo. We make a short characterization of the novel and then we expose that Tora, the city in which the story takes place, located in the Colombian Magdalena Medio, operates as a prisma through which you can discern the social and political contradictions that is being debated in this country. Tora is also a site resistance, from which a group of prostitutes are trying to rescue their dignity. This novel confronts, invests or simply cancels some ideas and representaciones which still prevail concerning women prostitute in the social imaginary. Similarly, it calss into question the official discourse on the control of body, hygiene and disease of the prostitute.
