Lejos de Roma. Pablo Montoya

El sentimiento de que Lejos de Roma, la segunda novela de Pablo Montoya, que acaba de ser reeditada en España, significa algo nuevo en el panorama de la narrativa colombiana, responde a varias motivaciones. En primer lugar, y posiblemente es lo más evidente, por su temática se aleja de los cauces más rutinarios de esa narrativa, sometida al uso y abuso más intransigente y a las estrategias editoriales que solo buscan cortejar las malas costumbres del público. Dicho alejamiento coincide con una aproximación a planteamientos que parecían más propios de la literatura europea, en la que, iniciado el siglo XX, y en especial después de las dos guerras mundiales, se retornó a personajes célebres, reales o ficticios, inspirados en la antigüedad clásica, de Virgilio a Ovidio, de Orestes a Electra, de Calígula a Adriano. En el caso concreto de Ovidio, que es el autor en el que se inspira Lejos de Roma, Pablo Montoya tiene como antecedentes recientes a Christoph Ransmayr, y también a Vintila Horia, un escritor de origen rumano al que en 1969 le fue otorgado, pero no entregado, el premio Goncourt con una novela inspirada en el autor de La metamorfosis.
