This article approaches German Espinosa's historical novels Los cortejos del diablo, La tejedora de coronas y Sinfonía desde el Nuevo Mundo, departing from the symbolical content of their central characters and the main events they protagonize. The purpose is to show how the fictions built a historical sequence: since 17th.c. through 19th.c. the Independence was built due to a process in which Modernity illustrated the longing for freedom.
