Abstract: This reading of La casa de las dos palmas by Manuel Mejía Vallejo focuses on one of the main social issues faced by Colombian society:violence. The secondary and decorative place where women have been secluded evidences the impossibility of accepting the role women play in the new order beyond pre-modern societies. Mejía Vallejo’s novel, maybe unaware of it or without pretending it, constitutes itself as a poetic testimony of a split society which seems to leave out half of its members: women and with them, the feminine.
