Abstract: This article tries to identify Bogotá's evolution and its inhabitant in the novel, Prohibido salir a la calle. This novel describes the dynamic change of a conservative and traditional city during the 1960's into a heterogeneous big city where premodernity, modernity and postmodernity live together. The literary text, whose scenery is Bogotá, represents in various ways such mixture and is aware of the heteroclite process of modernization. The novel attains its value because it is a written memory, a file of the city that takes place in a particular period of time. The social context of the novel is a low middle class, anguished and subdued because of the lack of opportunities within a big city that begins to vibrate.
Key Words: Triviño, Consuelo; Prohibido salir a la calle; Heteroclite modernization; Heterogeneous cities.
