Liberalismo económico y liberalismo político en el pensamiento económico francés del siglo XVIII

Los economistas franceses del siglo XVIII defendieron en sus obras los principios del liberalismo económico. Paradójicamente, frente a las libertades públicas su actitud fue, en algunos casos, de franca antipatía. Esto contrasta con la posición de los economistas ingleses, sus contemporáneos, en cuyas obras la libertad comercial y la libertad pública están estrechamente unidas. Ciertos rasgos de la evolución de la monarquía francesa permitieron, tal vez, que los economistas de ese país vieran en el absolutismo político el instrumento idóneo para alcanzar la libertad comercial.
