ABSTRACT The purpose of this article is to provide a general overview of the main ways of representation of the taboo of death in a sample collected from epitaphs from Albacete graveyard (Spain), and give an account of the significance of its diachronic evolution. To this end; I consider the epitaph as a socially oriented practice which euphemistic, comforting and flattering aims are carried out through a wide range of linguistic resources. The results obtained support the idea that epitaphs faithfully represent the social convention and personal feelings towards death.Downloads
