At the basis of this study is the following historical hypothesis: that the crisis of representation that the modern author would experience, from 1830 onwards, stems from his demand for legal and symbolic recognition. This demand, which the author experienced as the separation of his being and of the image he projected into the literary scene, would impact upon literary modernity.
