This article reports a linguistic analysis of the compliments in the textbook Interchange Third Edition. The author analyzes the typology of compliments in the text according to Manes & Wolfson (1981), and verifies if there is a guide to use the compliments. The results indicate that the textbook offers a great variety of examples of compliments but does not offer a guide to use them.
