This text exemplifies three peculiar features of literary works in the Greater Caribbean, at a point related to the notions of opacity (Édouard Glissant) and de cierta manera (Antonio Benítez Rojo) but highlighting the urgency of delivering criticism from the constrains of “applying” concepts. The text is meant to be an invitation to produce situated literary criticism, less tied to some traditional assumptions of hegemonic critique. Such traits are related to the role of the oral and afro-spiritualities in this context (and its literature), and the renewal of literary genres in part as a result of the intervention of both elements. Critics are invited to read the Greater Caribbean in its own references and with greater theoretical, and perhaps methodological, fluidity in agreement with the nature of the works.
