In this text, the authors account for a process of investigation, with the participation of teachers and students of the indigenous educational community of Santiago (Putumayo), regarding the interpretation by elders, leaders, and craftsmen, of the symbols of own visual arts manifestations (fabrics, basket-making and carving), looking at strengthening the process of formation -in research- of a group of students ingas at the Universidad de Antioquia and contribute with a greater articulation to the understanding of the problems of their communities and the generation of alternatives.
