Effects of the psychoanalytically oriented therapeutic intervention in children with ADHD

The treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) from a psychoanalytic perspective entails the questioning of the approach guided by pharmacology and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) to introduce a clinical standpoint where the subject and their symptom are treated otherwise. In this case, psychoanalytic therapy offers the option of the word, the game, and other strategies for the treatment of children, where the symbolic becomes valuable since it is the privileged way to producing therapeutic effects. The direction of the treatment is applied here without attempting to normalize; nevertheless, because of the singularity of the symptom, it is possible to decipher it, regulate the drive overflow, and offer a necessary mooring for the subject.
