Legendary Protectors and its Regional Rooting: An Ecocritical Perspective of Colombian Oral Traditions

This paper identifies the relationship between nature and human beings in a corpus of Boyacá rural legends. Firstable, this work approaches the concept of legend and its characteristics; then, the corpus is analyzed from ecocritical postulates to find the common factors between environment and human being that allows its subsequent categorization in: nature protective beings and nature as an active subject. Finally, it is concluded that nature is not only a central part of the legends, but a vital part of the Boyacá peasant identity; therefore, nature influences by its cultural value towards the promotion of ecological awareness.
