The editors of The Thoughts of the Indian Educated in the Colombian Forests (1939) by Manuel Quintín Lame Chantre, in the Twentieth Century

This paper examines the editorial project of the 1970s that resulted in the publication of The Thoughts of the Indian Educated in the Colombian Forests by Manuel Quintín Lame. The study focuses on the editors Juan Friede and Gonzalo Castillo-Cárdenas, as they were the only ones who had access to the manuscripts. Based on Gisèle Sapiro's sociology of literature approach, it analyzes the editorial decisions that influenced the reception and interpretation of this work, considered key in Colombian cultural and literary history. It also highlights the importance of editorial studies to understand the mediations that make possible the dissemination of indigenous works and the central role of publishers in the preservation of Lame's legacy.
