The articulation between nationalism and populism, although expressed in the discourse and action of political leaders and movements today, is not easy to identify. Political theory must continue studying cases in order to propose some generalizations. In this sense, one of the ways to elucidate the concepts of populism and nationalism is to clarify the various cases in which both have been articulated, particularly in populist politics. The main argument is that populism and nationalism have been connected and are both conceptually and empirically related, since some populist movements have been nationalistic and nationalism has often had a populist component. Consequently, the essay examines political movements history where both political doctrines have appeared.
