Abstract

This paper is an essay on tanatology, the science that gives sense of coherence and respectability to death. Also dealt with are western attitudes toward death. Domestic death, other person’s deaths and forbiden deaths are discussed, as well as the physiologic, psychologic and spiritual experiences of the dying person, his or her solitude and phantasies.
