Semantic (re)construction of hit verbs in latin , Anglo-saxon, and old grek
Abstract: This paper analyzes the semantic content of hit verbs in Latin, Old English, and Classical Greek using the Lexical Grammar Model (Cortés and Mairal 2002, Cortés and Torres 2003, and Van Valin and La Polla 1997, among others). This model postulates that syntactic behavior is influenced by semantics, thereby making it possible to use the former to determine a large part of the semantic content of lexical entries. We describe the potential for this methodology to (re)construct the semantic content of words in classical languages.
