Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mandibular asymmetry in a group of boys and girls of five years of age, from the city of Medellin using the 45° oblique cephalograms, lateral and frontal facial photography. The sample consisted of 83 children in which radiographic evaluation was carried out (46 boys and 37 girls), of these, 50 children (25 boys and 25 girls) were evaluated by facial photography. The oblique radiographs showed that the left side was dominant in mandibular lenght The gonial angle were larger on the right side.Although the boys presented more asymmetry than the girls, there was no statistically significant difference.In lateral facial photography there was no difference in mandibular lenght by sex.
