Militarization of citizen security in Medellín

This article is based on the phenomenon of violence plaguing Medellín in recent years and seeks to reveal the true content of Citizen Security. First, to investigate the juridical and institutional framework of the institutional functions responsible for it. Second, to demonstrate the ambiguity of its operativization. Thus putting here in evidence the re-militarization of Citizen Security, which implicates the upsurge of violence and exacerbates the problem. Finally, I propose a Human Security-based reading that establishes an alternative to overcome the violence that afflicts Medellin.
