Abstract

The core of this article is a reflection on how we assume, in our research group, the relations between the specific knowledge of mathematics and the pedagogical knowledge of the subjects who teach mathematics. We think that mathematical knowledges are provided with cultural meaning, and therefore have historically become symbolic instruments. The pedagogical knowledge is also a process and a product in the way of teaching a human way of dealing with knowledge in general.

Manoel Orisovaldo de Moura, USP

PhD in Mathematics Education from the São Paulo State University (USP), in São Paulo, Brazil. Lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Education of USP and coordinator of the Group of Studies and Research on Pedagogical Activities (GEPAPe).
