I. El viraje histórico.
Hace 185 años fue inventado el estetoscopio, ese ingenuo y a la vez mágico aparato que empezó a ser usado para cambiar de modo contundente, pero ojalá no por siempre, la relación entre médicos y pacientes. El encargado de recordárnoslo fue Stanley Joel Reiser, en su libro Medicine and The Reign of Technology. (Cambridge University Press, 1978). Y nos resumió la versión el ensayista Neil Postman, en su obra Tecnópolis, (Círculo de Lectores, 1994).
Seguramente, para muchos ya es anecdótico el modo en que el médico francés René-Théophile-Hyacinthe Laënnec, en 1816, llegó a proponer este aparato...
