Abstract

The acceptance of modern art in Colombia comprises two clearly differentiated stages: a) a first period of rupture with the nineteenth-century academy, of an Americanist and nationalist character, and b) a second stage in which the aesthetic premises of modern art are accepted without restrictions and assumes the confrontation with the international artistic field. The origin of this second version of modern art in Colombia, between 1945 and 1960, and the resistance that its supporters had to face in the Antioquia region, constitutes the central theme of this text.
