Pablo Montoya’s Tríptico de la infamia (2014) is a historical novel that makes extensive use of the ecphrasis, the verbal representation of a visual representation which may be both real and imaginary. Although many critics have already noticed this strategy, its analysis shows some lacks. The article focuses on the ambiguous interaction between two different kinds of this technique, explaining how their relationship conveys a deep self-reflection on art’s limits and resources.
