Tomás Carrasquilla en dos historias de la literatura colombiana

Las historias de la literatura colombiana de finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, a la vez que se comprometieron con el objetivo político de consolidación de la nación, cumplieron una función canonizadora que significó coadyuvar con el establecimiento del selecto listado de obras y autores que se entendían como los más relevantes del proceso literario colombiano. Esta función estuvo directamente relacionada con el aspecto político, siendo el factor principal en la delimitación del canon y en la valoración de las obras y los autores. Tales historias pretendieron contribuir a la formación de sentimientos patrióticos y nacionalistas (Toro, 2007, 64), y ello se vio claramente manifestado en el canon.
