ATENCION INTEGRAL DEL PACIENTE MEDIANTE EL ESTABLECIMIENTO DE NIVELES ADECUADOS DE ATENCION MEDICA
Abstract
The pressure of growing demand for more and better health care services has forced countries to introduce changes in traditional health care delivery systems and to make more effective use of available resources. The need to extend the coverage of such services to the population, especially to those living in rural areas, is recognized, even though it is evident that there are severe limitations of all kinds that countries face in extending coverage to meet reasonable and useful objectives or targets. It seems natural to admit, then, that only the stratification of institutional resources into levels and their rational use according to people's health needs will make it possible to approach the ideal of coverage of the entire population.
However, in order to be able to use all the resources available to the countries, it is necessary to have a clearly defined health policy framed within the economic and social development plans.
A fundamental point of this policy is the integration or coordination of the institutions that make up the health sector, as a means of reaching all population groups with health benefits.
