ENCUESTA DE PREVALENCIA DE NIVELES DE PRESION ARTERIAL EN EL MUNICIPIO DE AMALFI (ANTIOQUIA)
Abstract
The general prevalence rate of hypertension in the urban area of the municipality of Amalfi in the population over 15 years of age was 19.8%. The rate was higher for women (21.4%) than for men (16.7%).
2. There are two peaks in the curve of prevalence rates by age group, in the groups of 15 to 24 and 35 to 44 years, suggesting different risks for these groups.
3. The average blood pressure figures by age group are compared with those of Colombia (National Morbidity Survey 1965).
4. Some areas for future research are identified: oral contraceptives and hypertension; frequency of streptococcal diseases and prevalence of hypertension in a given environment; differential characteristics between people at the lower end of the distribution curve and those at the upper end, after standardization by age.
5. The percentage of treated hypertensive patients (32.6%) is found to be very high compared to that of Colombia (0.01%) and that of similar areas with El Retiro, Antioquia (13.9%).
6. The percentage of hypertensive patients with a history of family history of the disease is defined (47.2%)....
