In the period may 2003 and april 2004 the primary productivity and the contents of humic substances were determined in the swamp El Eneal. In the pelagic zone, the productivity was measured and samples were taken from water for the analysis of humic substances. The swamp system of the Eneal presents a oligotrofic state, with a reduced production at the time of rain. In contrast, at dry time, when the water level diminishes, the production is greater and the oxygen levels are higher, due to the presence of the submerged macrophyta Najas guadalupensis. It was associated to the low presence of plankton and disposable nutrients.
