During August 2017, the IV International Conference Industry and Organizations (CIIO 2017) and the II Colombian Conference on Operational Research (ASOCIO2017), brought together in Medellín-Colombia researchers who presented and discussed models, methods andapplications of Industrial Engineering and Operational Research, respectively. The contributions presented included works in modeling, theory, algorithms, andsuccessful applications. Both conferences highlighted how Industrial Engineering and Operational Research can play an important role in decision making for applications in the fields of sustainability, food security, healthcare, education, energy, mobility, logistics, and scheduling, among others.
