THE MORPHEME -EIR- IN CONTEMPORARY BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE

This paper investigates morphological operations and semantic meanings concerning the morpheme -eir- in the history of Portuguese language, based on the descriptive studies of Cunha & Cintra (1998), Rocha (1998), Soledade (2005) and Via-ro (2011). For that purpose, not only the authors’ proposals were reviewed, but new morpheme realizations were also extracted from informal texts on Internet, where the language sample was considered closer to the vernacular one, which supports the transparency of this research.
