ABSTRACT: This paper presents an application case of the general anomia concept in the novel Comandante Paraíso, written by Gustavo Álvarez Gardeazábal. According to the theory of Emile Durkheim which was further developed by Lidia Girola and Peter Waldmann, anomia is the absence or loss of personal norms, standards or values. The submitted proposal is framed within the research project “Anomia in crime fiction novels in the XXth Century in Colombia (1990-2005)”. It aims at characterizing crime fiction under the concept of anomia. This perspective suggests a new treatment of what has been considered to be the crime fiction genre in Colombia, in order to propose original readings of this type of literature.
