En la docencia tradicional, el alumno es iluminado con la verdad acabada del profesor dictador'. En el seminario, el estudiante (lat.: studens, -entis, el que aprehende) aprende cómo se conoce, cómo se investiga y cómo socializa o humaniza lo que conoce y hace; en este proceso se convierte poco a poco en maestro de sí mismo, en orientador de su formación integral, y se ejercita en el trabajo y estudio tanto personal como en equipo.
