This article delves into the relationship between Carlos Rincon’s work and two of his predilect authors: Walter Benjamin and Jorge Luis Borges. To this end, the functions of concepts such as “constellation” and “simulacrum” are analyzed within the frame of Rincon’s conceptions about history, writing and academic praxis. Besides the intersections with Benjamin’s and Borges’s works, the relationship above mentioned is exemplified by reviewing one of the last books Rincón edited: María la de El Paraíso. El juicio televisivo de la novela de Jorge Isaacs: los ecos y el dolor de lo que pudo haber sido y no fue.
