INTEGRACION DE NIVELES BIOLOGICOS Y SOCIALES EN LAS INVESTIGACIONES DE SALUD-ENFERMEDAD
Abstract
El objetivo de este documento es demostrar la factibilidad teórica y práctica de abordar la investigación de los problemas de salud Materno-Infantil, integrando los niveles biológicos, psicológicos y sociales en los que el problema se manifiesta, y produciendo un conocimiento explicativo global de la realidad.
A manera de ejemplo, consideramos una investigación hipotética sobre la Etiología de la desnutrición proteico-calórica infantil en una comunidad determinada de Latinoamérica, si bien debe quedar en claro que esta metodología es aplicable a toda investigación sobre fenómenos de salud-enfermedad, cualquiera sea el problema en estudio.
Todo fenómeno de salud y enfermedad tiene vertientes biológicas, psicológicas y sociales que explican su génesis y las modalidades de su distribución en los individuos y las sociedades. Se ha insistido en que la comprensión de un fenómeno de salud y enfermedad sólo puede lograrse mediante un enfoque tridimensional en que, las tres vertientes, se analicen en forma integrada.
Sin embargo, la sola aceptación de esta premisa no asegura, per se, una correcta aprehensión de la realidad a investigar. Varias son, en efecto, las dificultades a enfrentar: quizá, los escollos más relevantes sean las dificultades conceptuales en el análisis de "lo social" en relación con la salud y enfermedad, y su integración con la vertiente biológica de análisis.
