Uropathogenic escherichia coli resistant to multiple antibiotics: a public health problem

Abstract

La infección del tracto urinario (ITU) se ha clasificado como una de las principales causas de consulta médica a nivel comunitario y hospitalario. Escherichia colies el microorganismo más frecuente responsable del 75-85% de este tipo de enfermedades; estas bacterias presentan resistencia a diferentes tipos de antibióticos, especialmente a los de uso clínico, entre ellos a cefalosporinas de tercera generación, aminoglicósidos, sulfas y quinolonas, mostrando un fenotipo de multirresistencia; además posee varios genes de virulencia y patogenicidad, los cuales junto con una serie de características necesarias en el hospedero facilitan el desarrollo de esta patología.
