Abstract

Objective: To describe the perioperative morbidity of patients with burns greater than 5% of the total body surface (SCT) undergoing covering surgery with skin grafts. Methodology: Retrospective case series observational study, carried out between June 2014 and November 2017. Results: 50 patients were evaluated, 56% women and 44% men; 60% of the cases occurred in children under 40 years of age. The main causative agent was flame burn, with 56%, and 48% of the patients had a compromise between 21 and 50% of the body surface. For the surgical act, 54% of the patients were admitted with hemoglobin between 10 and 12.9 g / dL, and 44%, between 7 and 9.9 g / dL. no deaths in the first 24 postoperative hours, but there were during the hospital stay, with a mortality of 4%, associated in all cases with sepsis. Conclusion: Patients with burns greater than 5% of the cct undergoing skin graft coverage surgery have a high incidence of perioperative complications, including: anemia, sepsis, stay in intensive care units and even mortality. These complications are mainly associated with the compromise given by the burned body surface area.
